Todays’ reputation and recognition is the outcome of the company’s evolution since the beginning. All our teams use this inherited know-how and expertise used as the starting point for each project.

Merging this knowledge with our forward thinking on new technologies, processes and materials help us improve everyday working processes and our customer solutions.

Over the years, we have increased our production capabilities and our team skills which have helped us in an ambitious geographic expansion.

1957

IT ALL STARTS

It all starts in January 1957, when Josep Mas launches the company, Inyección Termoplásticas Mas.
The company has two machines for transforming plastic into packaging for pharmaceuticals, based in Cardedeu.

1960

NETLON: THE REVOLUTION

On 12 March, the company obtains an operating licence for the Netlon patent and brand. The company takes a new direction.

One of the keys to success was the friendship between Brian Mercer, the inventor of Netlon, and Josep Mas. In January 1960, the first contacts are made prior to establishing the company that operates with the Netlon patent in Spain.

1964

INTERMAS S.A. IS BORN

In August 1964, an agreement is reached to change the company name to Intermas S.A.
From thereon, in the 1960s, the company expands: new products are developed with applications in a range of areas. The production plants and offices expand, and the company produces nets for bags to package oranges: rhombic and squared meshes and box covers. Intermas expands its facilities and its production exponentially.

1966

The company obtains the operating licence for the BERATEX patent production line of raffia fibre for the agricultural sector.

1968

Intermas invents the CUBRE net.

1969

Intermas invents the “R” bag (3-strand bag with raffia fibre fastener) for packaging oranges, which makes a big impact on the market.

1970

In 1970, the facility in Cardedeu has 6.502 m2 of industrial warehouses and 570 m2 of offices.

1971

EXPANSION

The company secures 20.750 m2 of land in the Collsabadell industrial estate in Llinars del Vallès, allowing it to formulate an optimum development and growth strategy. The same year, the company establishes a Quality Assurance department, which upholds the high standards of excellence promoted by Intermas.
The company also develops a design for the BOP net machine, which has several industrial and agricultural uses.

1973

OIL CRISIS

Intermas takes over two companies in the Collsabadell industrial estate, where the company’s current facilities are located. NOPLEX, a company that produces BOP meshes, raffia, “R” bag and RASCHEL® sacks, and IGEMSA, a company that builds machines for Intermas.

1975

NEW CHALLENGES AND NEW PRODUCTS

The Intermas network grows exponentially.
From 1975, through analysing current and hypothetical market needs, Intermas succeeds in launching new products.

The company produces POCHES (nets) for oyster farming.

1979

The company produces the MASNET net, to signpost works.

1980

NEW CHALLENGES

In the 1980s, the company manufactures a draining tube.
It is used to attract surface and underground water to ensure that surfaces are always dry and to remove absorbed water.

The company starts to manufacture a draining net in Cardedeu. In the 1990s, it produces a 2-metre wide draining net for landfills and roads.

ONGOING INNOVATION

From the 1980s, Intermas continues to uphold a company culture of innovation and modernity, committed to the use of advanced technology, stringent quality assurance and constant customer service.

RASCHEL® woven mesh

In 1981, the company expands its lines of business by investing in production methods to manufacture the RASCHEL® woven mesh, which it stops producing in 2003.

1985

A PREMIUM COMPANY WITHOUT LIMITS

By early 1985, Intermas has become one of the biggest names in the plastic transformation industry, on both a national and international scale. Intermas exports to more than 15 countries, it has a staff of 225 employees and it has a significant commercial network with representatives throughout Spain and in various countries overseas. At the same time, the company continues to expand: it has 16.525 square metres of industrial warehouses and 1.505 square metres of commercial and administrative offices.

1986

The Linpac Plastic Group acquires Intermas S.A., which becomes a subsidiary of the British multinational.

1990

CONSOLIDATION OF A BRAND

From the 1990s, Intermas continues to expand its quality network and its productivity.

1994

In 1994, the company implements the quality assurance standard, ISO 9002.

1995

In 1995, the company develops a geotextile and mesh lamination with a 4-metres wide machine.

1996

In 1996, Mr Fort, Mr Besas, Mr Clavell and Mr Banus conduct Management By Out together with 3I (Risk Capital company) and Internas Nets S.L is born. The company produces its first drainage products.

1997

In 1997, the company develops a range of nets to support air filter systems.

ISO 14001

In 1998, the company obtains the ISO 14001 standard, the first company in Spain to obtain this standard in the plastic transformation industry.

1999

COMMERCIAL REORGANISATION

In late 1999, the company undergoes a commercial reshuffle in seven of its lines of business, which are classified into three separate divisions (gardening, performance & product development, and packaging).

The new organisation enables Intermas Nets to enhance its international positioning, and it establishes a production plant in Mexico. In this country, it positions itself as a quality brand that provides excellent service and offers outstanding value for money. Intermas Mexico is founded in Tijuana.

2000

WORLDWIDE EXPANSION

Intermas continues to expand, and it establishes Intermas USA Inc. in California.

CELLOPLAST

At the start of the millennium, the company makes an important announcement: it acquires the company Celloplast in Ballée (France).

2002

The company leaves 3I in support of the families of Management By Out.

2003

NOPLEX

In 2003, the Intermas Mexico Subsidiary closes, and Noplex Artes Gráficas S.L. joins the company.

2005

A MASTERMIND OPERATION

In 2005, a critical operation takes place: the company acquires Nortene Technologies, in Lille (France), which is a company that belonged to the NORTENE S.A. group.
Nortene Technologies was the direct competition of Intermas Nets at this time, as it was the supplier of the Nortene Jardinage net, Celloplast’s competition.

Banco Sabadell / Aurica XXI acquires 20% of Intermas Nets.

2009

ENVIRONMENTAL AWARENESS

In 2009, as the company expands it also increases its commitment to environmental sustainability. Accordingly, it recycles oyster meshes and transforms them into new products. The environmentally friendly oyster meshes use 50% recycled material from used oyster meshes and 50% new material.

Intermas Nets merges with and takes over Seilfil Percan and Magrotex. The company enters new markets with Intermas Polska in Eastern Europe and Poland.

2010

CONSTANT PROGRESS

Intermas continues to centre its business strategy on creativity, innovation and new technologies.
In 2010, the company launches the Nortene® brand in Spain for Gardening. We also acquire Viscoret (Italy).

2011

The company launches a new logistics centre in Celloplast, which has a surface area of 12.500 square metres. We implement SAP in Intermas Nets.

2012

Intermas implements SAP in Nortene Technologies, which opens a new factory in Lomme (France). We also move Jardins de Nortene’s commercial headquarters to Ballée, the Celloplast headquarters.

2013

USA, REORGANISATION

In 2013, the company continues implementing SAP, this time in Viscoret. In addition, it is an important year for the company, as it establishes a subsidiary, Intermas Nets USA Inc., in Miami (USA). The company closes Intermas USA, which has ceased to operate since 2004.

A merger takes place between Celloplast and Jardins de Nortene, and the company is organised into two broad divisions: BtoC, BtoB.

2014

A COMPANY THAT LOOKS TOWARDS THE FUTURE

In recent years, the company has implemented SAP in Noplex (2014), Celloplast (2015), Intermas Eastern Europe (2016) and in Intermas Polska and Intermas Nets USA (2017).

2015

CONTRIBUTING NEW SOLUTIONS, WE FACILITATE YOUR WORK

In 2015, we develop Open Bag, a new easy closing and opening system for Aquaculture.

We produce the ROCKSHIELD® net, a special mesh to mitigate the impact of rocks on oil pipelines and piping in general to reduce damage generated by the concentration of rocks at particular points.

In Building, we launch an underground signposting net GA®, equipped with Eliot technology (localisation and identification equipment with radio frequency for underground channels).

2016

THE ELAN PROJECT

In early 2013, the company takes a snapshot of the company, allowing us to move forward and secure our vision by converting ideas into initiatives. Our goal is to create a strategy to ensure the group’s business growth and profit in the medium and long term.

To obtain results, the company reorganises the group into two main divisions (BtoB and BtoC). We conduct research into the various lines of business in each subsidiary. The directors of the divisions, in conjunction with the business managers and teams, define the strategy. An in-depth business exploration that has never before been implemented, the combination of teamwork enables us to establish a clear strategy for the group and a three-year business plan, which is ambitious but realistic.

2016

DIGITAL TRANSFORMATION

In 2016, Intermas starts a digital transformation project, MAS 3.0, to tackle the challenges presented by the Industrial Revolution 4.0. The Intermas Group defines its digital vision and strategy, based on projects that render it a sustainable, added-value business model for both the company and its strategic partners. More than 50 members of staff take part in five cross-cutting work groups: “Go to Market”, “Operational Efficiency”, “People and Performance”, “IT and Data”, and “The Lab”.

At the same time, the Intermas Group promotes a digital culture and digital skills within the company.

2016

We invest in a new machine, RAME, which allows us to produce wide BOP nets, mainly for Agriculture.

In Geosynthetics we develop a new three-strand draining product (Capdrain®) to be used in landfills with high transmissibility.

2016

Aurica XXI sells its 20% shareholding.

The company establishes Intermas Netherlands, B-V. to enhance the positioning of the Nortene® brand in Gardening.

2017

The Good Vision, impact reduction

In 2013, the company conducts a team project to define the Intermas Group’s vision and mission, which includes the ELAN 2016 project. The team identifies strengths that represent the group and its employees, aiming to unite teams and promote a company culture. In 2017, the company launches a Values Campaign.

Aligned with our emphasis on environmental commitment, the company establishes Intermas Nets Recycling S.L.U.

2018

Redesign the brand

Intermas® The production rollers inspire a new symbolism allowing us to play with shapes and to give rhythm and sense to the brand. 

2018

Change of identity: Viscoret becomes Intermas Italia.
